Star Wars: The Force Awakens': That Crashed Star Destroyer Gets a Backstory? the battle is said to takes place in the aftermath of the destruction of the second Death Star, as seen in Return of the Jedi?

How did that massive Star Destroyer end up in the sand, anyway?

What led to the downed Star Destroyer visible in the first trailer for Star Wars: The Force Awakens? Newly released concept art for the Star Wars: Battlefront DLC "The Battle of Jakku" offers a fairly clear hint.

Described by Electronic Arts as "the pivotal moment when the New Republic confronted key Imperial holdouts on a remote desert planet" — a desert planet that will feature in December's J.J. Abrams-directed movie as the home for new hero Rey (Daisy Ridley) — the battle is said to takes place in the aftermath of the destruction of the second Death Star, as seen in Return of the Jedi.
The art was created by Anton Grandert, who described the pieces as having a "David and Goliath" theme, with "the epic, huge superstructures of the Star Destroyers contrast[ing] against the tiny but brave Rebel soldiers fighting the Imperial forces."

"The Battle of Jakku" will available as downloadable content for those who preordered Battlefront on Dec. 1, with it receiving a general release a week later, giving fans time to catch up on the game before Star Wars: The Force Awakens hits theaters Dec. 18.
